Finished Preliminary Task

Here is my finished preliminary task for Hendon Beat FM.

Evaluation

The software, Adobe Audition 1.5 enables you to edit out pauses and any mistakes. This means that I don't have to keep stopping and starting recording if any of my actors make mistakes. This software came in handy when creating my radio station due to having sound effects on, changing frequency of the sound and has many great tools for making a sound stand out. After combining all my sound effects, this software allows you to compress the sound effects to make it the whole radio the same level. This means when you are listening to it, it is at a constant level throughout.

  • What I could have improved on when finalising my radio station is that when you hear people talk, it will be hard for the audience to hear the voices clearly on any device. This was the same problem for the music I chose for my archive clip. Therefore, in my real radio station later on, I must not do this mistake too make my radio station be a successful piece.
  • For the archive clip, I made it more adventurous in terms of the number of layers of audio I used. There was the voice, but also a number of sound effects.
  • I used a relatively basic jingle with two layers: one being the voice and the other the impact sound - I used a relatively simple effect on the voice.
  • I learnt that compression makes everything sound louder so anything thats quieter is brought up to be more equal to the rest in terms of volume. This makes it sound realistic as radio.
  • When choosing the people to be in my preliminary task, I didn't give much thought to representation, and in particular directing my actors. This is something I'm going to think about more carefully with my full extract.
